Types Coverage

Business insurance includes a broad range of policy options designed to protect a business from financial loss.  Every business operation has its own unique set of risks, which means a business insurance policy must be tailored to the business. The most common types of business insurance are auto, property, general liability, umbrella and workers’ compensation. In general, auto insurance covers the company owned vehicles, property insurance covers damages to your business property and loss of income; liability insurance protects your assets and covers damages to third parties; umbrella is another protection of liability coverage over and above your auto liability coverage, and general liability coverage and workers’ compensation insurance covers on-the-job injuries to your employees.

Auto insurance helps protect your Vehicle and You in a few different ways, depending on which coverages you choose. Drivers in Wisconsin are legally required to have liability coverage. Additionally, comprehensive and collision coverage may be required by your lender. You can also purchase rental reimbursement, roadside assistance and car damage replacement to name a few.

Homeowners insurance helps protect your home (your most prized and expensive possession) and your belongings against covered losses, such as fire or theft. It also typically includes liability coverage, which helps protect you in the event that you’re found negligent (legally responsible) after someone is injured at your home or you cause damage to someone else’s property.

Condo insurance helps protect against structural damage to the interior of your unit. Liability protection is usually another component of condo insurance. It’s important to understand what your policy covers versus what may be covered by your condo association’s policy.

If you rent, you’ll likely find that your landlord has an insurance policy to help protect their building and their personal property, but that policy would likely not cover the belongings owned by you, the renter. Renters insurance commonly helps protect your personal property (furniture, clothing and electronics, for instance). It also typically includes liability coverage if you’re found negligent (legally responsible) for damages to someone else’s property or a guest’s injuries in your home. Renters insurance may also help pay for increased living expenses, such as if you have to temporarily relocate if your rented home becomes uninhabitable due to a covered loss.

Boats, Motorcycles, All-Terrain Vehicles, Golf Carts and Snowmobiles are among the vehicles that may be protected by adding these vehicles to your existing home or auto policy or a specialized insurance policy. These types of policies generally help cover the vehicle if it’s damaged or stolen and provide liability protection just in case you cause damage to someone else’s property or injure someone else while riding it. Owning a recreational vehicle can be a dream come true, protect that dream.

Personal Umbrella Coverage

Umbrella insurance provides an extra blanket of coverage above the liability coverage in home, auto and other personal insurance policies. Those policies usually carry liability limits of $100,000 or $300,000, but is that enough? Umbrella insurance adds a layer of coverage of $1 million, $2 million or more.
